Dreaming of grapes.
I get asked a lot what I'm going to major in, and what I might want to do when I grow up. I think most people are dissapointed when I answer that I don't really know what I want to major in, or that I have no idea how I'll spend my life. Conversations usually sound like this.
Someones parent: William, what are you studying again?
William: I'm on track for an econ major but I'm really not too sure about it.
Someones parent: Oh... (changes subject).
It's pretty frustrating not knowing if I'll even enjoy economics and wondering about what I want to do with my life. Truthfully, my dream job is to be a farmer, or to own a large vineyard in Napa. I guess I was presented with a choice of lifestyle when picking colleges. I had the choice of pursuing economics at Berkeley, which is a safe track for my life, or I had the opportunity of pursuing a fantasy to work towards an agricultural lifestyle by going to Davis and being a enology and viticulture major. I guess we sometimes put reality over our dreams. I'm positive that whatever I end up doing in my life will leave me happy, but I'll always wonder what life would be like had I pursued a dream of agriculture.
Don't you have a 'what if' in your life?
